Qualification history
Namibia have only been a member of FIFA for the last two decades, and in that time they have struggled in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup™. Despite twice reaching the African championship in that time, the Brave Warriors have yet to push the continent’s glamour sides in the preliminary stage of the world’s showpiece event. In fact, in over 30 qualifying matches since the run-up to USA 94, the southern African side have won just five times before the start of Brazil 2014. They opened and ended the preliminaries for South Africa 2010 well with a late 2-1 victory over Kenya to start and a 4-2 thumping of Zimbabwe to close, but the four losses in between were enough to eliminate them.

The current crop
The Brave Warriors have shown flashes of promise and counter-attacking zeal that will see them enter the Brazil 2014 fray with little to lose and much to gain. They could prove an especially tricky opponent at home in Windhoek.

The key players
Long-time internationals Oliver Risser and Collin Benjamin remain key leadership figures for the team and look to keep a tight ship at the back. South Africa-based Rudolf Bester is the most regular scorer for the side up front.

Qualification history
Having been a member of FIFA for over 50 years now, and having tried to qualify for every FIFA World Cup™ since 1974, the time may be right for the Harambee Stars to push one of the continent’s giants to the brink. They came close to doing that in the qualifiers for France 1998, when Kenya finished their qualifying group with ten points, just three off Nigeria’s pace and two behind Guinea. Four years later, they disappointed in going out to Malawi in a two-legged tie, while on the road to Germany 2006, Kenya won just three of their ten qualifying matches. There were signs of promise four years ago when Kenya won all three of their home matches to advance from a tricky opening group along with Guinea at the expense of Namibia and Zimbabwe. But once in the final stage with Nigeria, Tunisia and Mozambique, they stumbled and lost five out of six matches.

The current crop
There is no doubt that Kenya are working hard to improve their standing in the run-up to Brazil 2014, and an encouraging CAF Africa Cup of Nations campaign should have the team battle ready.

The key players
Inter Milan midfielder MacDonald Mariga will look to create goals for Auxerre striker Denis Oliech, and the two make a dynamic duo for Kenya to build around.
